Salut à la forêt (Greeting to the Forest) for 4 Horns
The composer Comte d'Osmond is difficult to trace bibliographically. He lived in France from 1828 to 1891. The following works from his compositional output are known:
Jacqueline: opéra romantique en un acte, published around 1855
Une pleine eau: opérette bouffe; first performed on 28 August 1855 at the Théâtre des Bouffes Parisiens in Paris
Le Partisan: opéra en quatre actes, published around 1881
He also published several hunting-music compositions.
The present work, "Salut à la forêt" or "Gruß an den Wald" – in the first edition, the German title is printed large, the French title only in small type –, was published in 1891 by the Parisian publisher Léon Grus. Interestingly, it is dedicated to Camille Saint-Saëns.
