Clapisson worked as principal horn player at the Teatro San Carlo in Naples until early 1816. Gioachino Rossini had planned his opera "Otello" for that year, but after the theatre burned down in early 1816, the premiere did not take place in Naples until October. Rossini and Clapisson must have known each other, and Clapisson later composed his Fantasy op. 63 for horn (or violin) on themes from that opera.
