August Heinrich Neithardt was a military music director and founder of the Berlin Cathedral Choir. He composed many works for this choir; his most famous piece is the song “Ich bin ein Preuße, kennt ihr meine Farben”.

He also composed several works for horn, including a concerto for two horns, horn trios on motifs from “Der Freischütz”, and horn quartets.

The six duos for two horns are dedicated to his friend Charles Stammer and were published by Breitkopf & Härtel in Leipzig.
