Little is known about the biography of the horn player A. Corret. In his first duo, he signed himself "A. Corret jeune" so as not to be confused with the musician L. Corret (aîné), who published a musicological work in Paris around the same time. A. Corret was principal horn at the Grand Théâtre in Rouen from 1815 to 1862. He may have studied horn in Paris beforehand, as Louis-François Dauprat dedicated to him his 5th and probably most virtuosic horn concerto (ROM 155).
Corret's duos for 2 horns bear the dedication "Dédié aux Amateurs." Corret wrote very skilfully for both horns, which are thus not always confined to a first and second voice but also alternate meaningfully with one another. Unfortunately, this was uncommon for its time, from duos up to horn quartets.
