There is not much known about the horn player A. Corret. On his first duo, he names himself "A. Corret jeune" in order not to be confused with the musician L. Corret (aîné), who at the same time published a musicological work in Paris. A. Corret played first horn in Rouen at the Grand Théâtre from 1815 to 1862. Perhaps he had studied horn in Paris beforehand: Louis-François Dauprat dedicated to him his 5th and probably most virtuosic horn concerto (ROM 155).
Only solo chamber music with horn by Corret survives in print. Of the duos presented here, the first is dedicated to Mad. Adelle Lechevallier, the second to his friend Eustache Bérat (1792–1884). Bérat was born in Rouen and worked there as a painter, chansonnier, and certainly also as a guitar player.
