Ludwig van Beethoven
Duo No. 1 WoO 27 arr. for Flute and Horn
(Original version for clarinet and bassoon)
Arrangement for horn and flute (violin, oboe)
Ludwig van Beethoven's Duo No. 1 in C major was originally composed for C clarinet and bassoon. It was published around 1810 by Lefort in Paris. The exact date of composition is unfortunately unknown. This is an occasional composition by Beethoven, to which he did not assign an opus number, as with much of his "salon" music. Two further duos, in F major and B-flat major, belong to the same collection.
This arrangement of Duo No. 1 in C major is intended to add to the rather scarce repertoire for horn duo combinations. The original key has been retained. The horn part lies in the middle to low register; the flute can easily be replaced by an oboe or violin.
