Quartet for Horn, 2 Violins and Bassoon

The Bohemian hornist Johann (Jan) Makovez studied with Punto in Paris. During the 1781/82 season he played second horn in Haydn's orchestra at the Esterházy court. From 1786 he was employed as a musician at the Prussian court. His name appears under various spellings in the sources, including Mackowetzky, Makovecky, and Makowetz.

The present Quartetto pour Cor, 2 Violons et Basson is dedicated to the reigning Prince of Lobkowitz and was published around 1790 by the Leipzig firm Breitkopf & Härtel.
