Antonio Rosetti (1750–1792)
Quintet in F major for Horn, Flute or Oboe, Violin, Viola and Basso (RWV B 6) arr. Giovanni Punto
This quintet is based on a print by the Parisian publisher Sieber, issued around 1789 under the name of Giovanni Punto. It appears there as the "2nd Quintet"; in fairness, the print also credits Rosetti's name in small type above this quintet.
Rosetti's original scoring was for flute, oboe, clarinet, cor anglais and bassoon. The autograph of this composition (Murray B 6) is preserved in the University Library in Augsburg under the shelfmark D HR III 4 1/2 285.
The original work is in E-flat major and was not printed during Rosetti's lifetime. Punto not only rearranged the piece for a new scoring but also altered the movement endings – in the editor's opinion, even more effectively than Rosetti did.
