Arrangement for Wind Quintet
This divertimento in B flat was composed in Salzburg in 1777. It was originally scored for 2 oboes, 2 horns, and 2 bassoons.
Arrangements of this divertimento for wind quintet already exist, but most of them favor ease of playing over the work's original sound. In the original, both horns are pitched in high B flat, producing that characteristic silvery, transparent tone.
This arrangement takes that original sound as its starting point. The horn part is certainly no easier as a result — but it is true to the original. It was performed to great acclaim by the Ensemble Avanti, and this arrangement is now available to other wind quintets as well.
