Giuliano Lusini was probably born in Florence on 11 January 1764. Little can be established about his life and training. Gerber's Tonkünstlerlexikon of 1811 lists him as a singer, conductor, and composer who toured Germany with an opera company in 1792/93.
During this tour he stopped in Kassel in 1792. Gerber notes that Lusini's wife, Caterina Lusini, soprano and prima donna of the company, sang with taste and skill. A motet was performed in Kassel, and it is reported that Lusini also composed operas, such as Alciade e Telesia.
The Bibliothèque nationale de France holds several of Lusini's compositions, including the present 6 Trios for flute and 2 horns. The title page reads “Giuliano Lusini Florentino / In Roma.”
For whom and on what occasion these trios were composed can currently not be determined; according to the Bibliothèque nationale de France, they date from around 1790.
Scoring for flute and 2 horns is very rare. Wolfgang Amadé Mozart's son Franz Xaver (1791–1844) had his 6 piccoli pezzi for flute and 2 horns published around 1810.
This edition presents Lusini's trios in their first printed publication.
