This edition of the Horn Concerto in E-flat major is a new edition of the concerto first published by Edition KaWe in 1971. Unfortunately, the note in the title of that edition – “Arranged with free adaption …” – is to be taken literally: Edmund Leloir, the editor at the time, attempted to smooth out harmonic peculiarities and even added passages of his own composition to the work.
This edition is based on the two sets of parts of the manuscript copy from the estate of the horn player Franz Zwierzina. They are held in the collection of the Öttingen-Wallerstein court orchestra at Augsburg University Library under the shelfmark HR III 4 ½ 4° 277.
The new edition seeks to present the many harmonic subtleties and the originality of Antonio Rosetti's compositional style authentically once again.
