Antonio Rosetti
Concerto in D minor for Corno secundo principale (RWV C38)
Scoring: solo horn, 2 violins, viola, basso, 2 oboes and 2 horns
A new edition of one of Rosetti's best-known horn concertos. The only surviving source of this concerto served as the historically reliable basis: a print by the publisher Spehr of Braunschweig, issued around 1790. Careful examination made it possible to correct numerous errors, omissions and alterations (in keeping with the musical taste of the time) found in earlier editions.
Unfortunately, only one verifiable copy of this print of C 38 survives worldwide. It is held by the Moravian Church (Herrnhut) community in Christiansfeld, which kindly provided me with a copy for this edition.
Worth noting are the many parallels between this concerto and Rosetti's Horn Concerto C 39 (published around 1786 by Sieber; new edition available as ROM 52).
