The Swedish industrialist and patron of the arts Patrick Alströmer (1733–1804), who worked in Gothenburg, was a friend of the Dresden composer Johann Gottlieb Naumann (1741–1801). He had numerous copies of Baroque compositions made in Dresden and other German cultural centres for the newly founded Swedish Academy of Music. Today this collection is kept in Stockholm at the Musik- och Teaterbiblioteket (The Music and Theatre Library of Sweden). The present concerto belongs to the Alströmer collection, where it is catalogued under the name Fogel.
The 1763 catalogue of the Leipzig publisher Breitkopf lists this concerto under the name Vogler.
Until now this concerto was considered lost. It is published here for the first time.
