A Baroque horn concerto in E major that was almost unknown until now. Its origin cannot be determined precisely; it probably comes from France. Around 1910 it was apparently part of the collection of the French musicologist Henry Prunières (1886–1942).
On the title page, headed “Concerto a 4 / Corno solo / 2 Violini / et / Basso”, the words “par / Viani Cadet” were added later (possibly by Prunières). However, no Monsieur Viani is known from this period.
The concerto dates from around 1750. The range extends up to a notated c3. A performance with organ as an alternative is easily possible from the score.
