Antoine Clapisson & Henri Herdlizka
Fantasy for Horn (or Violin) and Piano with Castanets
You can find out more about the horn player Antoine Clapisson (1779–1857) on french-horn.net – father of the composer Louis Antoine Clapisson (1808–1866).
The Fantasy was composed in collaboration with Henri Herdlizka (1796–1821). Born in Paris in 1796, the son of a horn player, he trained there as a pianist and composer and performed as a pianist at the Opéra Comique. In 1818, he moved to Bordeaux, where he died in 1821.
The final Bolero section of the Fantasy features castanets (ad libitum) – a unique feature in horn literature.
