Johann Georg Röllig was born in 1710 in Berggießhübel near Pirna. Röllig received lessons from the school rector J. Balthasar Grellmann, 1727-1735 he was at the Kreuzschule in Dresden and received composition lessons from Jan Dismas Zelenka and Kreuzkantor Theodor Christlieb Reinhold at the expense and with the support of Count Brühl. Also with Karl Hartwich, the later Zittau music director, who also instructed him in piano playing. On instruments learned Röllig also violoncello and organ. From 1735 he studied theology in Leipzig and was also heard there by the prince Johann August von Anhalt-Zerbst on the organ and with the cello. The prince took Röllig with him to Zerbst where he took on the post of court organist and chamber musician. Later he became vice-Kapellmeister, after the death of Johann Friedrich Fasch in 1758 the real Kapellmeister in Zerbst. He died on September 29, 1790 in Zerbst.
Today only a few works by Röllig are known and played. These include his two horn concerts in Dis- and D-major, which have been recorded several times on CD. Are edited as ROM 22 and ROM 23 in the Robert Ostermeyer Music Edition.
