Ludwig van Beethoven
Duo No. 2 WoO. 27 arr for Flute and Horn
(Original for clarinet and bassoon)
Beethoven's Duo No. 2 in F major was originally composed for C clarinet and bassoon and published by Lefort in Paris around 1810. Unfortunately, the exact time of its composition is not known as it is an occasional composition without an opus number. It is part of a collection of three duos, which also includes duos in C major (ROM 007) and B flat major (ROM 420). This arrangement for horn and flute (alternatively violin or oboe) is intended to expand the relatively rare literature for duos with horn. The original key was retained, with the horn playing in a middle to low register and the flute being easily replaced by an oboe or violin. Alternatively, the horn can also be played with a Wagner tuba.
