Unfortunately, very little biographical information about the horn player A. Corret has survived. Corret was principal horn at the Grand Théâtre in Rouen from 1815 to 1862, and presumably studied the horn in Paris before that time. Louis-François Dauprat dedicated his 5th – and probably most virtuosic – horn concerto (ROM 155) to him. Unfortunately, the theatre's archives in Rouen burned down in 1876, destroying valuable documents that might also have shed light on Corret's biography.
All of Corret's works were composed exclusively for the valveless natural horn.
Solo for Horn and Piano, Op. 2 (1815)
In his Solo pour le Cor avec Accompagnement de Piano, Op. 2, for horn and piano, he signed himself „A. Corret jeune“ – to avoid confusion with the musician L. Corret (l'aîné), who published a musicological work in Paris around the same time. This composition is dedicated to a Mr. Dibon.
