Peter Joachim (earlier also referred to as Johann) Fick (1708–1743) is represented in the music collection of the Regional Library of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern in Schwerin by at least 26 concertos, six Baroque symphonies and other works. He came from Hamburg-Altona, where his ancestors had already served as town musicians (Stadtpfeifer). In 1730 a "Laquay monsieur Fick" was employed at the court of Schwerin, and by 1740 he appears there again, this time as court organist. Fick died in Schwerin in 1743 and was buried in the cathedral cloister on 26 December of that year.
Fick was not only a prolific composer but also a dedicated copyist – particularly of works by Vivaldi, which seem to have fascinated him and of which numerous copies in his hand survive. Today it is not always possible to say with certainty whether a given manuscript is a copy or an original composition by Fick himself.

Curiously, the indication "2 Corne de chasse" in the title of the manuscript was corrected to "4". However, the source itself contains only two horn parts, and four horns would in any case no longer match the title "Concerto a 9". It is possible that both horn parts were doubled in performance.
The tuning of the two horns in G is relatively rare in compositions of this period. A bassoon (basson) was notated as the bass instrument. A cello and/or double bass may, of course, also reinforce the performance.
