Antonio Rosetti (1750–1792)
Parthia in E-flat for 2 Clarinets, 2 Horns and Bassoon (RWV B deest.)
First edition
Rosetti's oeuvre is astonishingly extensive and varied in its scoring. Chamber music, and wind music in particular, was an important focus of his output. Alongside his Harmoniemusik for up to 13 players, such as the Parthia in F "pour la chasse" (Murray B 18), Rosetti wrote numerous works for smaller ensembles. Many letters survive in which musicians approached Rosetti and commissioned such chamber music. This correspondence shows that Rosetti must have composed considerably more of these works than have come down to us.
This three-movement Parthia is held by the University Library in Wrocław (Breslau) and is not listed in the RWV (Rosetti thematic catalogue by Sterling Murray). It is published here for the first time, in the series Oettingen-Wallerstein Harmoniemusik.
